Mangawhai border confusion

Rodney-based list MP Marja Lubeck says reports that Kaiwaka, Oneriri and Mangawhai are in Covid-19 level three lockdown with Auckland are incorrect.

Ms Lubeck says that police checkpoints have been placed north of the regional border for convenience.

Residents north of the regional border, but south of the police checkpoints, remain in alert level two lockdown.

Ms Lubeck says this means that residents of the Kaipara District ought to be able to travel north through checkpoints without restriction.

She says this point is currently being worked through at the highest levels of government.

Northland residents who encounter issues with the northern checkpoint are invited to call Ms Lubeck’s line on 0800 582325 or email marja.lubeck@parliament.govt.nz.

Residents in Mangawhai and Kaiwaka got a fright this morning to find images on social media of police checkpoints north of their towns.

Kaipara District Mayor Jason also took to Facebook last night announcing that Kaiwaka, Oneriri and Mangawhai would be in lockdown. Ms Lubeck says this was a misinterpretation of the advice.

Mangawhai Beach School also informed parents it would be closed for the day while the Ministry of Education sought official information on whether the school was in alert level three or two.
