Exemptions for stock care

Sheep and beef farmers, their workers, plus vets, should now be able to cross the Auckland-Northland border to tend livestock, following the granting of an exemption by the Ministry of Health late last week.

Some workers had been turned back from border chekcpoints by police and troops, causing frustration and concerns for animal welfare.

However, an exemption will now run until the end of Level 3, at 11.59pm on Sunday, August 30.

Beef + Lamb NZ says farmers and workers must ensure they are carrying the letter of notification from the Ministry for Primary Industries and a letter from employers noting the worker’s full name, either in hard copy or on a phone, plus photo ID.
