Ladies on the line for Sandspit fishing competition

Despite a forecast for rain and wind gusts of 30 knots, the Warkworth Gamefishing Club’s Ladies Competition went off without a snag.

President Dave Adams said though the weather was not hot, the fishing certainly was, with the top five snapper being more than 70cm.

Top catch went to Lexi Carter with her 78.5cm snapper, as well as Caroline Ridley for a 57.5cm kahawai and Charlotte Greenwood with a 97cm kingy.

“Crews caught and released good-sized snapper until they couldn’t do it anymore. One crew was back at the ramp before 10am,” Dave said.

The early bird prize of a comfy camping chair from Hunting and Fishing was won by Aimee Ridley.

The average length snapper for the day was calculated at 44.5cm, and Caitlyn Fraser received the prize for having the closest at 44cm, or about 1.8kg – the perfect ‘pannie’.

Caitlyn won a weekend’s use of a new Jaguar car from Archibald & Shorter North Shore and $500 for accommodation and meals from Advanced Concrete Pumping.

The dress up theme of 70s Disco was enjoyed by all, and the team from Karakia won the Best Dressed Team prize of dinner and drinks at the Sandspit Yacht Club.

Dave said special thanks go to sponsors Archibald & Shorter North Shore, Advanced Concrete Pumping, Southeys Group, Streamline Electrical, McDonald Adams Optometrists, Maui Jim Sunglasses, Mason Contractors, Fuchsia Hair Design, Kitchen & Bar Sandspit Yacht Club and Warkworth World Travellers.
