Zero cases detected in Wellsford

For the second week in a row, the Wellsford Community Based Assessment Centre (CBAC) has recorded no new cases of Covid-19.

The total of 10 cases have been detected at the centre, with the last case recorded on April 17.

The Wellsford CBAC covers the region from Warkworth to Brynderwyn.

Coast to Coast Health director Dr Tim Malloy says it is good news and it looks like the country has dodged a bullet.

He says the challenge will be for New Zealand to remain vigilant, to keep a close eye on whether a second wave of infections occurs and be ready to respond if one does.

At the same time, he says that it is important that people do not neglect other health issues.

Dr Malloy says in recent weeks, the number of patients seeking medical help at clinics has declined dramatically. This may have been due to people not wishing to over burden the health system or through fear that they might contract Covid-19 at a clinic.

But Dr Malloy says people with adverse health conditions should be diligent in getting them checked.

“Our message is don’t put it off any longer. If you have a health need seek advice,” he says.

“The whole range of diseases that were there before this virus came along are still there now, so we need to continue to respond to them.”

Dr Malloy says stringent measures are in place at clinics to ensure there is no transmission of Covid-19.

The number of cases of Covid-19 detected at Wellsford mirrors national trends, which show a declining number of cases detected across the country. Yesterday, there were only three new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
