Music and more for Carols in the Park

Warkworth shops and businesses are being encouraged to keep their doors open a little later on Friday,

December 1, when Warkworth Rotary’s annual Carols in the Park Christmas celebration will be held at Lucy Moore Park.

This year’s concert is starting earlier than usual, at 6.30pm, with a performance by the Mahurangi College kapa haka group. One Warkworth manager Murray Chapman says this gives town centre businesses the ideal opportunity to support the event and encourage a little late night Christmas shopping at the same time.

He hopes to have live musicians playing in the street before the carols start to provide a festive atmosphere for the hundreds of people who will be heading to the park.

“People will be walking through the town to get to Lucy Moore Park, so why not have shops open and invite people in?” he says. “We’re working on getting music in the main street, too, so if anyone knows any buskers, or anything like that, please get in touch.”

Carols in the Park will feature singers from three schools, Warkworth Primary, Snells Beach and Horizon, and music from Warkworth Brass Band. Mark Mitchell MP will once again MC the event, and people are encouraged to bring along a blanket and a picnic to the ever-popular Rotary event, which has been running for 18 years.
